Our Story

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Sharad Sanghi (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 1989), to establish the Centre of Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases at the Institute. The Centre has been set up through the generous contribution of Mr. Sanghi and his family.

SCAN envisions creating novel tools and biomarkers for the early detection, diagnosis, and prognosis of neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Frontotemporal Dementia. Our findings can then be applied to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

The Sunita Sanghi Centre of Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases (SCAN) has been established through the generous donation of the Institute’s Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Sharad Sanghi (B.Tech., EE, 1989), and his family, in memory of his mother, Mrs. Sunita Sanghi.

Sanghi, who is currently the managing director of NTT Ltd in India, has pledged a generous donation to the “Sunita Sanghi Centre of Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases” (SCAN) in memory of his late mother Mrs. Sunita Sanghi.

Donor's Message

“Neurodegenerative diseases are increasingly becoming a challenge to the senior citizens of our society and threatening to deprive them of quality life in their golden years. The onset of such ailments is a trauma for the affected person as well as their loved ones. This contribution is in memory of my late mother, Mrs Sunita Sanghi, and in support of the institute's planned Center for Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases. This center is an endeavor towards ensuring that neurodegenerative disorders in the elderly are detected and treated in a timely manner for better outcomes.”
