Amyscan (Prof. Samir K Maji)

AmyScan Healthcare aims to transform how amyloid-based neurodegenerative diseases are diagnosed, starting with Parkinson’s disease. Here, we are developing minimally invasive, cost-effective blood tests that detect disease-specific amyloid markers, enabling timely intervention and improved patient outcomes. At the heart of our innovation is a patented amplification technology, a process similar to PCR. This amplification platform enables the detection of ultra-low levels of circulating amyloid seeds in blood. These amyloid seeds are the key biomarkers of many neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s disease. Our approach will provide highly sensitive and specific results, even when biomarker levels are minimal, potentially empowering clinicians to make faster and more accurate decisions.

Built on more than a decade of research led by our founder, Prof. Dr. Samir Maji, a global expert in protein misfolding, aggregation, and amyloid biology. Prof. Maji has conducted research at leading institutions including Harvard Medical School, UCLA, the Salk Institute, and ETH Zurich. Currently a Professor at IIT Bombay and Professor-in-Charge at SCAN, he brings unparalleled expertise in the biology of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s to our translational mission

AtrofiQ (Prof. Kshitij Jadhav)

AI-Powered Early Dementia Detection: From Research to Real-World Impact

With seed funding support from the Sunita Sanghi Centre of Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases (SCAN), our research has evolved into a clinically relevant start-up, AI-powered platform for the early detection of dementia using brain MRI. Developed through a collaborative effort between the Koita Centre for Digital Health at IIT Bombay and Max Healthcare, the platform addresses a pressing need in India’s healthcare landscape—the lack of indigenous, context-specific tools for diagnosing neurodegenerative disorders. By combining advanced brain segmentation, brain age prediction, and normative modeling grounded in Indian population data, our solution facilitates timely and precise dementia risk assessment in routine clinical workflows

The project was recently recognized with the DISHA Award for “Recognized Technologies in Digital Health” under the Academic Lab-to-Market initiative by the IITI DRISHTI CPS Foundation, IIT Indore, and was honored by Hon. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science & Technology, Government of India.

SCAN’s initial funding was instrumental in translating research innovation into a scalable, real-world solution. The project is now being accelerated as  a startup venture, with plans underway for broader national deployment—underscoring how early-stage support can catalyze meaningful impact.
